WARNING: This description contains heavy spoilers for the entire episode.
The episode opens with Gobber feeling saddened by the fact that the "place he made for himself" in Berk--which is making weaponry for killing dragons--is now an unneeded occupation.
Hiccup teaching
After Team Snotlout loses Snotlout finds it odd that his dragon, Hookfang, caught fire (or 'flamed up') while he was mounting him--something he's never done before.
After class, Hiccup attends Gobber's 'special demonstration' to try and advertise that his weapons can still be useful in a non-violent way. Such as using a sword to butter toast, or a catapult for "defense against home invaders". Sadly, no one is impressed or interested in his weapons anymore. And Mildew takes this chance to make Hiccup feel guilty for putting Gobber out of business and "ruining his life".

The next day, Stoick gives Gobber a list of duties to attend to: naming Berk's newest child, settling a dispute between Bucket and Mulch, and repairing a ship. Unfortunately, he fails at every task, naming a baby girl "Magnus", only making the fight between Bucket and Mulch worse, and repairing a ship with iron and sinking it. At the end of the day Stoick is completely fed up with Gobber's "help." That night, Stoick passes the responsibility of finding a new occupation to Hiccup.
The next day, Hiccup brings Gobber to help out with the Dragon Training classes despite the teens objections, but Gobber proves to be more of a hazard when he brings all of his weapons and proceeds to "help" train the dragons by threatening to kill them. The terrified dragons fly off.
Gobber's "Killing Things"
The next day, Gobber reveals his saddles to the teens and they end up being the most ill-fitting and odd saddles--one of them even having a flame thrower despite the fact that dragons already have one "built in"--and Hiccup too becomes fed up with Gobber's "help" as well.
At the end of the day Stoick comes to check up on Hiccup, who is cleaning up the mess that was made around the arena due to Gobber's saddles, and suggest that Hiccup let Gobber go as well. Hiccup, though, doesn't want the responsibility of hurting Gobber's feelings, but Stoick assures him that telling Gobber the truth is the best thing.
That night, Hiccup goes to Gobber's workshop and "takes him off the saddle project". Gobber tries to hide his sadness, but Hiccup still feels horribly guilty. As he walks out of the workshop he's met with a chaotic scene of Hookfang going wild and spitting fire around the plaza and Snotlout begging for Hiccup's help.
Hiccup firing Gobber
Hiccup tries to stop Gobber but just as he does so they both finally realize what's wrong with him. Gobber proceeds to fix the problem and it's revealed that Hookfang simply had a bad tooth that needed to be pulled out. Snotlout, joyed that his dragons won't be killed has an affectionate moment with Hookfang but then tries to cover it up.
Gobber the Dentist
Gobber is scene to have a thriving business keeping up with the dragons health related needs and has converted his workshop into a doctor's office as well.
