EXT. Berk -
Night
Alvin laughs and hulks forward to pick up a bent and broken
sword.
Alvin
Looks like Stoick isn't as armed as we'd anticipated.
Outcast #1
From the looks of the armory, he's not armed at all.
ext./int. Haddock House - night
The pair moves on, stopping in front of the Haddock
home. Alvin turns casually to his friend.
Alvin
Hmm... Should I knock? I mean, what's the
etiquette in these situations?
He grunts, effortlessly kicking the door right off the
hinges, and stomping through the opening.
Alvin
I think that seems about right. Stoick! Show your
face!
A fire still crackles in the center of the house, but the
home is otherwise empty.
Alvin
The old coward's turned and run.
Outcast #2
I spotted fresh tracks leading into the forest. And
I heard reports of a big guy with a bucket on his head heading down to
the beach.
Alvin
Ehh, we'll split up.
He turns, exiting the house and waving the Outcasts in the
appropriate directions.
Alvin
You four, go into the woods.
Outcast #1
Where are we going?
Alvin
(enthusiastically)
We'll go to the beach! How many hostages do you think a
dragon conqueror is worth?
Outcasts
Seven! Nueve! Eight!
Hiccup and Fishlegs watch from the side of the house as the
Outcasts retreat for the beach.
fishlegs
(worried)
What do we do now?
Hiccup
Go to the woods and warn my father. I need to get ahead
of Alvin and warn Mulch and the others.
The two part ways.
ext. Raven
Point forest/berk - night
Gobber stands at the edge of a cliff, explaining the plan to
Stoick and the others.
Gobber
When they come looking for us in the forest they'll have to
come through here.
Stoick
Alright. What do we have?
Gobber
Two frying pans, a rolling pin, and a kitchen knife.
stoick
And what are we going to do when we find Alvin? Bake
him a cake!?
Gobber picks up the kitchen knife, tossing it and catching it
by the blade.
gobber
Eh, pie would be nice, too. Who doesn't like pie?
He chucks the knife at an enormous tree as what seems
to be a careless toss, but it ends up splitting the tree right down the
middle.
Gobber
That could be useful!
ext. Thor's
Beach/berk - night
Mulch leads a trail of Vikings down a path alongside a cliff
as they make their way quickly and quietly to Thor's Beach.
mulch
Hurry now! The cave is just up ahead.
Pausing to look backward, he realizes someone is missing.
Mulch
(concerned)
Where's Bucket?
little girl
He went back to get my lamby.
mulch
Oh for the love of...
Mulch treks back through the woods, muttering to himself.
mulch
Why am I always looking for Bucket? Hey, yeah, why
can't he- Bucket? It's like trying to keep track of a half-wit pig.
Mulch gasps as Bucket steps into his view, carrying the
little girl's stuffed lamb protectively over his shoulder.
Mulch
Ung, Bucket! You had one job: Bring up the rear.
Bucket
But the little girl! You should've seen the look on her
face, big blue eyes with the tears welling up.
Mulch smacks his forehead, giving in.
mulch
Ugh, oh... Your bucket's hard, but your heart is
soft. Come on, come on.
Mulch motions to Bucket and the pair begin making
their way back toward the beach and the others. They stop short,
though, when two spears block their path. Alvin stalks up from behind.
mulch
Uh oh...
Alvin
You made it easy for us, Bucket. It's hard to miss a
half-wit and his lamb.
Hiccup listens to the encounter, dodging behind trees
as Alvin and his crew march Mulch and Bucket down the path, laughing
menacingly.
marauder
(in the distance)
Keep moving!
Hiccup peers out from behind a tree.
ext. Raven
Point forest/berk - night
One of the Outcasts sees something and points.
Outcast #3
There he is! Get him!
Gobber tears through the forest, the marauders on his tail.
gobber
All you lousy Outcasts, you'll never take me alive!
Gobber jumps from a short cliff and continues to run, as the
outcasts chase behind, shouting and jeering.
Outcast #4
Come on, get him!
Outcast #5
You can't get away.
Gobber finds himself cornered against a steep rock face.
gobber
Ugh. Looks like you got me, boys.
The Outcasts close in around him.
Outcasts
Come on, get him!
The Outcasts charge, yelling loudly. Stoick appears, seemingly out of nowhere, and one of the Outcasts smashes face first into his outstretched arm.
A female Viking steps out of the trees, twirling a bola. She throws it, snagging an Outcast around the ankles. He falls against Gobber's stone hand attachment. Gobber kicks him in the leg, then punches him in the face, knocking him to the ground.
Stoick lands on the back of another Outcast, hitting
him the head with an axe, as one more charges him from behind. Stoick
catches the axe and raises it, the second attacker taking the butt of
it to the face. The Outcast crumples to the ground as Gobber strides
toward Stoick
gobber
Or maybe it's we who've got you.
Stoick drops the axe and both men freeze at the sound of
footsteps in the forest.
stoick
(hushed)
That way. Over there.
The others follow his command, running in different angles toward the sound. Stoick stops by a tree, silently watching someone move through the underbrush. He dashes down the path, leaps off a cliff, and tackles an unsuspecting Fishlegs.
They topple over one another, finally coming to a
stop, with Stoick pinning Fishlegs to the ground and instinctively
raising his fist.
Fishlegs
(terror)
Stoick! No!
Stoick freezes, taking in the situation.
Stoick
For the love of Thor, Fishlegs, I could have killed you!
fishlegs
Thank you... For not killing me.
Stoick climbs off of Fishlegs.
stoick
What are you doing here?
fishlegs
Alvin the Treacherous grabbed me. He looked really
treacherous.
stoick
I know they're here, Fishlegs.
fishlegs
Yeah. They're here for Hiccup.
A fresh amount of worry crashes over Stoick's face.
Stoick
Hiccup...
ext. Thor's
beach/Berk - night
Alvin paces along a rock ledge above a crowd of hostages.
Alvin
For those of you who haven't figured it out...I am
the one and only Alvin the Treacherous. And let me be clear--that name
was earned!
The hostages watch as he makes his introduction.
Tuffnut cocks an eyebrow, unimpressed.
tuffnut
Alvin? Pft... How did he earn that?
alvin
Your leader has abandoned ya. But Stoick doesn't
concern me. I'm not here for him. I want the Dragon Conqueror.
Mildew's face brightens and he looks towards Astrid, who eye
brows tighten at the mention of the "Dragon Conqueror".
mildew
(to Astrid, mockingly)
Say goodbye to Hiccup!
Mildew happuly raises his arm, getting ready to turn Hiccup in.
mildew
Alvin!
Astrid immediately turns towards Mildew as he's about to turn Hiccup in and backhands him in the nose, knocking him out and catching him as he falls.
Alvin jerks toward them.
astrid
(innocently)
My grandfather's frail. He needs his nap.
Alvin turns away, disinterested. Astrid drops Mildew
carelessly.
alvin
Well, like I said...tell me who the Dragon Conqueror is and
you can all go free.
snotlout
The conqueror? Come on! I'll show Alvin who's a
conqueror.
He pulls out his bludgeon, while the twins smile and
nod. He jaunts up the ledge, club raised, but fear replaces his
confidence as Alvin turns. He lowers the weapon, extending it to Alvin.
snotlout
For you, Sir.
Ruffnut shakes her head and Tuffnut smacks his palm over his
eyes.
alvin
Well, you'd better check your trousers, son. I think
you've soiled yourself.
He takes the bludgeon and smacks Snotlout away,
striding forward. Astrid throws the hatchet. It's aimed and falls
perfectly towards Alvin's head, but Alvin catches it before it can do
any damage.
alvin
Will you look at that! My old hatchet! I was
wondering when I'd get that back!
One of the Outcasts tosses a struggling Astrid up to Alvin.
alvin
Trying to kill Alvin the Treacherous? Ooh hoo! You're not as smart as you look...
He walks slowly behind Astrid, lurking around her and searching for a weakness. But Astrid stays still, looking down at the ground determined not to say anything.
alvin (cont.)
...tell me, who's your Dragon Conqueror, eh?
Alvin makes his way behind Astrid and yanks her
braid, hard, dragging her head backwards as. Astrid lets out a groan of
pain, her hands twitching forward.
alvin
(forcefully)
Tell me!
Hiccup pops up from a boulder; serious.
hiccup
Leave her alone!
Astrid
Hiccup! What are you doing?
Hiccup jumps down to equal ground, puffing out his chest.
hiccup
I'm the Dragon Conqueror.
Alvin looks nonplussed, then bursts into laughter. The
rest of the Outcasts join in.
alvin
You? "Stoick's little embarrassment"?
hiccup
I drove the dragons from Berk. Look around. You don't
see any on this island, do you?
Alvin looks around, surveying the skies and seeing that there are, in fact, no dragons.
Hiccup meets Astrid's gaze, giving her a stern nod to
follow his lead and Astrid responds quickly with a nod of her own,
playing along.
Astrid
(to Alvin)
I-It's true! All the dragons are afraid of him. He even
conquered a Night Fury!
Alvin eyes Hiccup suspiciously, stepping forward to tower
over him. Hiccup rears back slightly, but doesn't back down.
alvin
You're bluffing.
hiccup.
Am I? Well, there's only one way to find out. Take me
to Dragon Island.
Alvin narrows his eyes, but retreats in agreement.
Sometime later, the remaining Outcasts continue guarding the hostages on the beach.
One looks around warily just before hands drop on his shoulders, pulling him away. Gobber lunges forward, knocking down another from behind, and Stoick punches a third off a short cliff before jumping and landing on his stomach.
stoick
Where's Alvin!?
The Outcast spits at Stoick and says nothing. Stoick
grabs him by the neck hauling him in for another hit, but Astrid
interjects, running up to Stoick with a worried expression.
astrid
Alvin took Hiccup.
stoick
What!?
astrid
He gave himself up. They're on their way to dragon island.
ext. North
Sea/Outcast ship - morning
The Outcasts' ship cuts through the sea. Two Outcasts hold
Hiccup at bay while Alvin steps toward him heavily.
alvin
I'm sure you're father's told you plenty about your island's
most feared enemy.
Hiccup
(impassive)
Wh-who's that? Oh, right, uh, you. No. Not so much.
alvin
Really? Not a word?
Hiccup
Nope.
Alvin
Nothing?
Hiccup
Nuh uh.
alvin
Nothing about Alvin?
Hiccup is already done with the repetitiveness of the conversation, and passively inspect his nails.
Hiccup
Nope.
Alvin growls in frustration, he will not be ignored.
hiccup
Look, 'Al'...
He pushes through the guards' spears, approaching Alvin.
hiccup
All I care about is that if I do what I say, you will leave
the people of Berk in peace.
alvin
On me word, son.
Hiccup distrustfully narrows his eyes.
ext. North
Sea/Hooligan ship - day
The ship sails through the ocean.
Astrid stands with Stoick and Gobber, while Tuffnut and
Snotlout move a catapult into position.
stoick
When we get there, we'll lay down cover fire with these catapults. Astrid, you get your dragons.
snotlout
No! Save your cover fire for the others, Sir. I can handle
myself.
He leans against the catapult's lever, falling over
and launching the boulder Ruffnut, Tuffnut, and an adult Viking had
just loaded. Stoick sighs.
gobber
I'll fire extra rounds to cover that one.
tuffnut
Sir, we'd like to personally volunteer to kick Alvin's butt.
He and Ruffnut step forward threateningly.
stoick
This isn't about Alvin. It's about Hiccup. We're here to
bring him home.
EXT. dragon Island - Day
Alvin, the Outcasts, and Hiccup all approach the caves of Dragon Island. Alvin walks closely behind Hiccup, a large sword in hand that he pushes against Hiccup's back, moving him forward in a jolt.
Hiccup lets out a small gasp.
hiccup
Hey, is the sword really necessary?
Alvin is still not amused by Hiccup's passive interest in his threats, but his vision is directed towards an object in front of him. He's immediately stunned.
alvin
Odin's Ghost....
Toothless makes a light growl as he comes out of the caves of the volcano in a mighty swoop. Then he steps lightly with happiness of Hiccup's arrival and caution towards the other people with him that he does not know.
alvin
Is that a...?
hiccup
Night Fury! The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself!
The Outcast men all arm themselves. Readying their crossbows to shoot Toothless if necessary.
Hiccup, though, immediately steps in.
hiccup
Ah, stop!
He then realizes he still must cover the tracks of his facade as he backs up closer to Toothless.
hiccup
...It will only make him angrier! Watch and learn.
alvin
By all means, proceed...
(to Outcasts)
I hope you're not squeamish. You're about to see a dragon eat a boy.
Hiccup walks casually up to Toothless, ignoring Alvin's comments.
Toothless, overjoyed to see Hiccup, pounces on him when he's close enough. But all the Outcasts simply take this as the first strike in an attack.
Unseen to them, though, Toothless happily licks Hiccup's face, purring slightly.
hiccup
I missed you too...w-we'll catch up later....
Hiccup pets the side of Toothless's face, smiling at the dragon's kind gesture and stands up slowly.
hiccup (cont.)
...Right now, follow my lead.
Hiccup guides Toothless over to the rock crevice where he placed his saddle, trying his hardest to make it seem like he was battling the night fury instead.
hiccup
(wistfully)
You cannot defeat me! You dirty dragon!
Despite his "dragon conqueror" banter being extremely cheesy, the Outcasts are instantly impressed as it appears Hiccup is really controlling the dragon to not harm him.
Hiccup continues to play up the moment, but grabs Toothless's saddle and begins to put it on him.
hiccup
I am the Dragon Conqueror!
Alvin is the first to notice something is not right, pulling out his sword and stepping forward.
alvin
Hey, what are you doing with that dragon!?
Hiccup mounts Toothless, sliding his prosthetic into the stirrup and turning towards the Outcasts, his expression determined and fearless.
hiccup
By the way, it's not really "Dragon Conqueror"...it's "Dragon Trainer".
(to Toothless)
Now!
Hiccup and Toothless take off, gliding over the Outcasts so they can get an eyeful before ascending higher. Alvin tries to slash Toothless's underside with his sword as they take off above him, but narrowly misses.
He's still stunned, but anger begins to mix with his shock as Hiccup and Toothless continue to get away.
alvin
Great thunder of Thor! He is the Dragon Conqueror! Fire!
The Outcasts quickly go back to their ship, hurling three catapults at Hiccup and Toothless.
hiccup
Look out!
Hiccup and Toothless are able to dodge all of the boulders, but their flight is thrown off by all the quick maneuvers and they struggle to get their bearings back.
Seeking to take advantage of their issues, Alvin barks more orders.
alvin
What are you waiting for? Shot him down!
He pushes one of the Outcasts forward and the rest follow suit, lining up along the edge of the ship with ready and loaded crossbows.
Outcasts
There he is! Now we've got him!
alvin
Fire!
The Outcasts shot their crossbows, four sharp arrows flying towards Hiccup and Toothless, who are still, trying to regain their flight. Hiccup and Toothless both gasp at the oncoming arrows before a flash of fire snuffs them out.
It's Stormfly and Astrid.
Hiccup and Toothless finally are able to fly straight and fall in flight next to their "saviors".
hiccup
(playfully)
Oh, what took you so long?
astrid
Why, did you miss me?
Fishlegs(o.s)
Hiccup!
Fishlegs calls out to Hiccup to warn him of the oncoming boulders being catapulted at them. Hiccup and Astrid separate and fly in sync to dodge the boulders, Fishlegs falling in flight with them as well.
hiccup
We've gotta get in closer!
Back on the water, the Hooligan's ship pulls in a short distance beside the Outcast's ship.
stoick
Aim for their catapults! If we knock them out the dragons can finish off the ship! Fire!
The Hooligans shot three catapults at the Outcasts' ship, all of which hitting either the ship, or the Outcasts directly.
alvin
Move offshore!
The Outcasts obey promptly, taking out ores and rowing the ship into the water.
hiccup
Here's our chance! Come on!
All the dragons fly down towards the Outcasts' ship, gliding overhead.
Alvin begins to get more and more frustrated with the dragons.
alvin
Oh, shot that dragon down! Fire!
Another catapult is set off near the mainsail of the ship, which is, unfortunately, right where Astrid and Stormfly are flying.
Astrid turns around in alarm at the shooting call, but can only dodge the boulder coming towards her. Stormfly twists in compensation but Astrid immediately falls off once Stormfly is upside down and falls onto the Outcasts' ship. Hitting the strings to the mainsail and the mast before falling hardly into a cart on the ship with a loud thud.
hiccup
(worried)
Astrid!
Hiccup and Toothless dive down to Astrid's rescue.
Astrid gets out of the cart, tipping it over and rushing to the edge of the ship once she spots Hiccup and Toothless flying towards her. She waves at them in alarm.
astrid
Hiccup!
Before she can be saved, though, Alvin forcefully grabs her arm and pulls her back down into the ship, flinging her around at his will.
alvin
Welcome aboard, Astrid.
(to Outcasts)
Don't miss this time!
The Outcasts shot their crossbows at Hiccup once he gets close to the ship, which he and Toothless narrowly miss.
hiccup
Look out!
But they can't compensate to grab Astrid while Alvin has her pinned closely to him.
hiccup
Hold your fire! He's got Astrid!
Snotlout doesn't seem to get the memo, and has Hookfang shot a line of fire towards the ship. But it misses and hits the water, producing a small wall of steam.
Hiccup
(chastising)
What are you doing!?
snotlout
I heard you say "fire".
hiccup
I said: "Hold your fire"!
Snotlout
See!? You said it again!
stoick
No, he's right!
snotlout
Thank you!
Stoick
Fire again, Hiccup! All of you!
Hiccup looks down quizzically at his father, analyzing the battlefield alongside his words. He sees the Outcasts' ship still has a small wrapping of steam around it from Hookfang's blast.
hiccup
Everyone! Fire into the water!
As instructed, the riders all have their dragons fire into the water, creating a smokey and steamy atmosphere around the Outcasts' ship.
The volume of smoke begins to make it hard to see and Alvin - still having Astrid held closely to him - looks around in a controlled panic.
The Outcasts all timidly keep their guards up, crossbows loaded and aiming straight, yet they can't see what to aim at.
Toothless flies through the smoke, making small noises to keep the Outcasts guessing.
alvin
Fire!
outcast
At what?
alvin
Everything!
The Outcasts shot their loaded crossbows blindingly into air, all of them still shaken up by the fact that they can't see.
In the near distance there's a rumbling noise that keeps getting louder and louder.
outcasts
Did you hear that? Oh, what's that!?
Alvin, thoroughly fed up with the ordeal, throws an axe forward towards the source of the noise, only to have it get stuck in the wooden front of the Hooligan's ship as it quickly approaches.
The boats collide and Astrid smiles, knowing very well what they're up to.
The impact of the colliding ships throws everyone on board falling backwards, and Alvin's grasp on Astrid loosens and she's able to break free, grabbing a nearby stick and whacking him in the nose and gut before making her way to the other side of the boat.
Out of the commotion, Hiccup and Toothless fly right over the boat and Toothless butts Alvin's head as they make a sharp turn, going over to Astrid.
hiccup
Astrid, hop on!
Astrid goes over to the very front of the boat, jumping up as Toothless flies over and grabs her with his feet, and the three fly away.
Stoick quickly jumps on the boat soon after Astrid departs, landing a punch squarely into Alvin's nose, pushing him back to the other edge of the ship.
stoick
You're a coward, taking my son.
alvin
I take what I want! You know that, Stoick!
Alvins rolls his hand into a fist, throwing it up hardly at Stoick, but Stoick blocks his punch with his hand...both of the men's fists shaking with tension.
Stoick
Not this time...
Stoick rears up for a punch of his own, but it's met with the same kind of blocking by Alvin's hand, their fists still shaking.
Alvin gets the upper hand, though, butting Stoick's head and kneeing him in the stomach. He rounds a punch towards Stoick's face, but Stoick is able to dodge it, and sees and opening to punch Alvin's stomach, as well as give him a solid punch under his chin.
Alvin falls back against the edge of the boat again and Stoick proceeds to walk away. Alvin, though, grabs the anchor of the ship, swinging it towards Stoick and hitting him in the helmet.
Alvin swings the anchor again, missing Stoick and hitting the stern. Wood splinters go everywhere.
Stoick steps on the rope attached to the anchor, hoping to stall the movements, but Alvin tugs on it and trips Stoick over and hurls the anchor right at Stoick's head while he's down. Alvin narrowly misses each time he swings the anchor at Stoick's head before Stoick rolls away and the anchor goes into the stern, becoming hooked on it.
Stoick capitalizes this and grabs the tightened rope, pulling Alvin forwards and winding the rope around his wrists and punching him in the face once more for good measure.
The stern of the ship finally snaps and being tangled in the rope by his hands, Alvin involuntarily follows the falling stern into the water.
Stoick watches in satisfaction and hops back on his own ship
stoick
Now, Hiccup! Burn the ship!
hiccup
Here we go guys! Hit em with everything you've got!
As the riders burn the ship the remaining Outcasts abandon ship by jumping off. The ship continues to explode and burn.
Stoick watches closely as Hiccup and Toothless land on the Hooligan's ship.
stoick
Hiccup, what were you thinking?
hiccup
I was thinking...all I needed to do was to get to Toothless. And together, we'd be able to make things right.
Stoick sighs in pride and worry over his son's fearless actions before looking over at the Outcasts' ship one last time. It continues to burn, and is sinking as well.
The dragons fly off with the Hooligan's boat following.
Meanwhile on Dragon Island, Alvin gets up and watches the dragons fly off. Odddly enough, though, he is not angry. He only begins to laugh, rather cynically.
All the outcasts watch their leader laughing maniacally and wonder if he's gone insane.
alvin
They ride dragons!
(still laughing)
We get that boy, and we'll ride dragons!
Finally getting the intrigue, the other Outcast join Alvin in their "evil laughter".
ext. the Docks/berk - dusk
The Hooligan's ship pulls into the docks, and all of the Vikings come out of hiding to welcome the heroes, and the dragons, back home.
hiccup
(to Toothless)
Hear that bud? You're back home...
Mildew, still, tries to ruin the moment, pestering the villagers as they run up to greet the dragons.
mildew
What are you cheering about? Don't you remember what these beasts have done!?
Stoick gets off the boat promptly, and goes right up to Mildew, fed up with him.
stoick
I do! They saved our lives.
Stoick gives Mildew a long and hard stare, daring him to counter his words. Mildew simply opens his mouth the speak, but can't think of a good rebuttal.
As Stoick walks away Hiccup shows up right behind his father with his own words to say.
hiccup
And I may not be able to prove what you've done. But I will never forget it.
Mildew gives Hiccup a sideways glance, a slight glare in his eyes as he quizzically watches the boy walk away with Toothless at his side up the docks and towards the village.
hiccup(v.o)
It's funny how an attack by your greatest enemy can change things overnight. I set out to prove that our dragons would never hurt us....what they proved, is that they will always protect us...
The villagers and dragons continue to walk back up towards the village, everyone happy and relieved that the attack from Alvin is over, and all very grateful as they chant "Dragons!"
Fade to black.
