Warning: this description contains heavy spoilers for the entire episode
The episode begins, oddly enough, without an opening
narration. Instead, it opens with Hiccup
and Toothless flying through a course made by the kids. The purpose of the course is to see who is
the fastest. When they finish, they
still have the best time out of the group.
However, Fishlegs reveals that one of the kids is catching up to them. Astrid happily takes credit for the feat, and
explains that she has been experimenting with Stormfly’s food, causing her to
get faster.
Snotlout
and Hookfang arrive at the scene.
Snotlout claims to have found something cool, and wants to show
them. The others follow on their
dragons, and Snotlout leads them to the beach.
A ship has wrecked on the shore.
They land and look inside, and see an unconscious, black-haired girl
about their age.
Finding Heather
She
wakes up, sees them, and backs away out of fright. They reassure her that they are friends. She asks for water, and all of the boys
immediately push ahead of the group and offer her water.
Toothless pushes through them to
see the girl, and frightens her. Hiccup
calms him down. Shocked, the girl asks
him how he did it. In an attempt to show
off, Snotlout calls Hookfang over, but the Nightmare flies away instead.
The girl introduces herself as
Heather and explains that she and her parents were on a boat when they were
attacked by pirates. They laid siege on
their island. Heather was able to
escape, but her parents weren’t.
Hiccup, out of sympathy, invites
her back to the village. As they are
leaving, Astrid searches Heather’s boat out of suspicion. Then, she gets on Stormfly. She reminds Hiccup that there is a meeting
the next day to work on times, and then they take off.
Later, Hiccup is showing Heather
into his house. Stoic is letting her
stay in his room. He shows her all the
rooms and then diagrams he is making of a new saddle for Toothless. Then, he offers her a glass of yak milk. She declines, saying she just wants to
sleep. Hiccup says goodnight, and he and
Toothless go downstairs.
Stormfly eating her nightly chicken
Later that night, Astrid is feeding
Stormfly chicken, as that is what is giving her so much energy. As she is doing this, she hears someone
sneaking around. She sees someone running,
and chases at her, eventually seeing that it’s Heather. She yells at her, but Heather keeps running
and reaches Hiccup’s house.
The next morning, as Hiccup is
working on Toothless’s new saddle, Heather arrives and gives him some advice;
if he uses a shorter connecting rod, it would pull him back and make him more
streamlined, therefore making them go faster.
Hiccup then takes her flying on Toothless and shows her around the
island. From the ground, Astrid watches
him angrily.
Hiccup forgets about the meeting,
causing him to be late. The kids and
dragons get really impatient, and Astrid complains that he is out with
Heather. Ruffnut accuses her of being
jealous, but Astrid furiously denies the statement.
Hiccup taking Heather out flying
Hiccup arrives then, to be greeted
by a furious Astrid. He realizes he
forgot about the meeting and apologizes.
Astrid, meanwhile, greets Heather in a hostile manner that implies she
saw her about last night.
Heather starts asking about the
academy and the dragons. The boys, apart
from Hiccup, begin hitting on her. During
the process, Fishlegs shows off by telling her all about the Book of
Dragons. Astrid, distrustful of Heather
and bothered by this, takes Hiccup aside with the book and tells him her
suspicions, leaving out the fact that she saw Heather the previous night. She tells him he shouldn’t trust her, but
Hiccup merely replies that he does, and leaves her.
Later on, Heather goes around to
each boy asking about their dragons.
First, she goes to Fishlegs and begins flattering him into telling her
all about Gronckles; everything from statistics, such as wingspan, to
characteristics that would help them in battle.
Then, she goes to Tuffnut and gets him to show her how Belch/Barf’s fire
breath works. Finally, she goes to
Snotlout, who spends the whole time trying to hit on her. Uninterested, she ignores his approaches and
asks about Hookfang; namely, how he sets himself on fire. Snotlout explains that his spit coats his
body and is flammable.
"So, Tuff, how does this work again?"
Later, she returns to Hiccup’s
house while he’s out with Toothless, and searches for something. She looks under Hiccup’s bed and finds the
book of dragons on the ground. As she is
looking through it, she finds the page on Deadly Nadders, and begins reading
it, but is caught by Astrid.
Astrid brings her to Hiccup and
tells him what happened. Heather lies
and tells him that she was cleaning his room when she found it on the
floor. Hiccup believes her, but Astrid
doesn’t buy it. She explains what
happened the night before; when she saw Heather out and about. Heather confirms that it was her, but that
she was merely taking a walk, as she hadn’t been able to sleep because of
terrible nightmares. Hiccup believes
her, and Astrid, feeling betrayed, exits the house furiously. Heather apologizes to Hiccup, but Hiccup
quickly forgives her.
Heather reading the Book of Dragons
That night, she sneaks out yet
again and approaches Stormfly, using what she read in the book to calm the
dragon down. She is hostile at first,
but in the end the technique works.
Heather begins feeding her chicken, just as Astrid arrives and confronts
her. Rather than playing innocent this
time, Heather realizes that Astrid is too smart for it and reveals that she is
not up to any good after all. Stormfly,
meanwhile, takes a liking to her because of the chicken, leaving Astrid feeling
betrayed.
Heather returns to Hiccup’s house
and looks under his bed, only to find that the book of dragons isn’t there
anymore. She looks downstairs and sees
that Hiccup is currently using it.
Frustrated, she leaves the house.
Astrid, meanwhile, is in the woods
throwing her axe at trees in rage. As
she is doing this, she hears footsteps, and sees Heather walk by on her way to
the beach. Suspicious, she follows the
girl, and sees an Outcast boat arrive at the island. Leading the boat is Savage, one of Alvin’s top
goons. She watches as Heather and Savage
meet, and Heather tells him all about the book of dragons, and reveals she is
working for Alvin. She manages to
persuade Savage to wait a little longer until she can get the book.
Heather making a deal with Savage
As she is watching, Astrid accidentally
makes a loud noise, causing the meeting to end out of a fear of being
caught. She returns to Hiccup’s house
and wakes him up, telling him what she had just seen. Hiccup doesn’t believe her, and tells her
she’s upstairs sleeping. Astrid drags him
upstairs to find out.
Heather is just returning from her
meeting and scrambles to get in bed before they discover her. As they enter the room, they see her in bed,
as if she had been sleeping the whole time.
Outside, the two of them engage in a heated argument in which Astrid
tries to convince Hiccup that she’s telling the truth. Hiccup, once again, doesn’t believe her.
Meanwhile, on Outcast Island, Alvin
and Savage are watching an attempt to tame a Monstrous Nightmare. Savage begins to tell him about the book of
dragons, and Alvin begins to impatiently desire for it. He is convinced that they need it.
The next morning, on Berk, Hiccup
is looking for the book and can’t find it anywhere. Astrid enters and tells him that Heather is
gone, and took her dragon with her. They
gather with the others to pursue her, and just before they leave in pursuit,
Hiccup attempts to apologize to Astrid.
She rejects is apology, telling him to save it for after they get
Stormfly back.
"She's stronger than she looks"
They begin their pursuit, and eventually
catch up to her over the ocean. Heather
feeds Stormfly chicken to try and get her to go faster, but the kids eventually
catch up anyway. Hiccup and Toothless
fly Astrid over her, and Astrid jumps onto Stormfly’s back and begins fighting
Heather. During their fight, they stray
too close to Outcast territory, and the Outcasts begin to shoot them with
flaming rocks flung by catapults.
Eventually, Astrid pushes Heather
off of Stormfly, but the book goes with her.
Snotlout goes after Heather and rescues her, while Hiccup goes after the
book. He comes incredibly close to
reclaiming it, but a flaming boulder is shot at him and Toothless, and they are
forced to pull away from the book to dodge it.
The book falls onto Outcast Island, and the kids retreat, leaving the
book of dragons in the possession of Alvin.
New Information:
- Heather is the first new girl character to be introduced in the franchise.
- She's voiced by Mae Whitman, which was unexpected by the fans who thought she was going to be voiced by Anna Marie Perez de Tagle
- This episode shared a lot of similarities to 104 "Terrible Twos" in which Heather was Torch and Astrid was Toothless.
- All the main boys developed a crush on Heather, including Hiccup.
- Astrid has been giving Stormfly chicken to increase her speed, and it proves to be very effective.
- Hiccup now keeps the book of dragons in his house, under his bed.
- Astrid has, yet again, kept the mindset that she can just come into Hiccup's house any time of the day or night she wants, unannounced.
- A plot hole would be the fact that Alvin was technically banished from Berk, so he should know about the existence of the book of dragons. Oddly, though, he doesn't.
