Full Description: "When Lightning Strikes"

WARNING: This description contain heavy spoilers for the entire episode

The episode opens with two dragons flying in and landing on two houses in the village. Sadly, their weight is too much and they crash down into the roofs, terrorizing the Vikings who live inside. Because of this, Hiccup starts to design some Dragon support perches, and soon after the perches are made and are put all around the village. On the docks, over houses, and in the plaza.

Hiccup's metal perch design
The perches prove to be a success, giving the dragons a place to land and sit without having them crash into people's roofs.

Stoick is proud of Hiccup's latest accomplishment until a lightning storm seems to approach the village, this is not uncommon on Berk to have a storm but it is odd when lightning begins to strike all throughout the village. Stoick and Gobber recall the only other time lighting came down to the village before and share the story of Jorgen Barnstat.

Jorgen Barnstat was a drifter who came into the village and was "stealing from widows and old men" and Thor's punishment towards him was to strike him withe a lightning bolt in the helmet as he was fixing the mast on his getaway ship. Stoick recalls that by the time Thor was done with him their "whole fleet was fire". Gobber said that they shipped Barnstat off the island and lightning has never come down to the village since.

Ironically, though, once the story is over lightning strikes over some houses and sets a few on fire. Stoick and Gobber immediately go to help out but Toothless seems particularly nervous around the lightning and runs off in a panic. Hiccup calls after him but Toothless is gone.

Lighting striking a house
The villagers try their best to put out the fires and Stoick as well as the other riders give their assistance in getting as much water over the fire as possible.

Meanwhile, Hiccup is still looking for Toothless, he finds Astrid and asks for her help and she gives him a lift on Stormfly since she claimed to have seen Toothless near the Great Hall. All the villagers, though, are particularly worried about why the lightning seems to be striking all over the village and setting things on fire and that Thor must be angry with them.

Hiccup and Astrid finally spot Toothless who is sitting on one of the perches, only to jump from perch to perch as the lightning strikes every perch he's sitting on. Everyone takes notice to this, claiming that the lighting is "following" Toothless. And....of course in comes Mildew saying that Thor is, indeed, mad with them, because of Toothless.

Hiccup and even Stoick are appalled by the assumption that Toothless is the cause of their lighting misfortune  but Mildew further explains. He restates that, as a night fury, Toothless is "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself" and that letting Toothless live in Berk has made Thor angry. Mildew's solution: Banish Toothless.

Even though the scared and confused villagers readily agree with Mildew's accusation despite Hiccup trying to remind them what Toothless has done for the village in the first place, Stoick momentarily silences Mildew. Stoick says that he doesn't think Thor is angry at Toothless, but they will find a way to "sooth his anger".

Thor's statue...of Thor
The next day, another storm is beginning to brew and Hiccup and the other teens brainstorm ideas on how to make Thor happy. They decide on a statue of Thor and all use their skills to build one entirely made of metal parts.

Later, Hiccup reveals the statue to the village in tribute to Thor and Stoick is proud, saying that "Thor will appreciate this tribute and smile upon us once again". Of course, though, Mildew isn't convinced that a simple statue with appease Thor's anger while they still allow Toothless to live on the village, and that anyone who believes that is a fool.

That night, unfortunately, the next storm brings even more lightning in the village than the previous night. The statue obviously wasn't enough to lighten Thor's anger. While the storm gets worse, even Gobber begins to believe that Thor is angry at Toothless, but Hiccup and Stoick aren't convinced. Thorughout the village the people take cover--or in Ruffnut and Tuffnut's case sit on the roof and watch the lightning strikes houses and burn as means of entertainment.

Soon, lightning strikes the statue of Thor directly and it transfers the bolt into a house, setting it on fire. Everyone takes this as a sign of what Thor thinks of his statue and Mildew claims that Thor want's Toothless as a sacrifice and until they give him up Thor's fire will "continue to rain down upon Berk".

"Don't worry, bud. It' you and me..."
Back at the Haddock House everyone is on edge but Stoick assures Hiccup that he doesn't believe Thor is mad at Toothless either. Soon, though, a mob of angry villagers are at the front of the Haddock house, all demanding that they give up Toothless so he can be shipped off to the end of the world. Stoick urges Hiccup to go take Toothless to a safe place until he can reason with the mob, and Hiccup--though hesitantly--obeys. Hiccup and Toothless go out the back window, and watch as the crowd yells, shouts, and bangs outside the front door before they run off into the forest.

Stoick and Gobber then go out to speak with the villagers and tell them that they've sent Hiccup and Toothless off the island. Though lightning continues to crack in the sky and Mildew isn't convinced, saying "Thor says otherwise". They mob and Mildew turn away, going to search the island for Toothless.

At the Hofferson house, Hiccup has made a stop at Astrid's before he leaves, probably telling her the whole ordeal. Astrid suggests hiding Toothless in the cove for the time being but Hiccup says that they'll just find him there and that he and Toothless have to leave. Astrid is saddened that Hiccup is leaving as well but he tells her that he doesn't want Toothless to have to fend for his own out there without him there. Still saddened, but understanding, Astrid accepts and Hiccup and Toothless fly off as the sound of the mob quickly approaches.

Just as Hiccup has left Mildew and the mob appear at Astrid's home, demanding to know where Hiccup and Toothless are. Astrid doesn't tell, but also claims that Mildew "got his wish" and that Hiccup and Toothless had left. Mildew still doesn't seem too convinced, but leaves Astrid alone as he and the mob continue to look around Berk for Toothless.

Somewhere over Raven Point Forest, Hiccup and Toothless narrowly avoid the mob--that's now searching through the forest as well--and fly off into the clouds. They have a few moments of peace before the lightning begins to strike around the them, and since they're high up in the clouds it's even worse. After dodging a few strikes, Toothless's tail is hit right on his prosthetic and they fall down back down into the forest, leaving a trail of smoke behind them and signalling the mob to spot right where they're falling.

Toothless's burnt tail
They land hard in the forest and as Hiccup examines Toothless's burnt tail he sees that the lighting hit the metal skeleton underneath the fabric. He looks up to the village seeing that everything the lighting is touching it metal: the perches the statue. He puts two and two together and realizes that it's not Toothless the lighting is  specifically hitting...it's the metal!

Before he's able to do anything with his findings the mob comes in and binds Toothless down with bolas and grab Hiccup as well. Hiccup isn't strong enough physically to break free from the men and save Toothless from more of them, though he tries his hardest. Mildew has Toothless bound up in chains much like how he was bound in the movie and is rolled away from Hiccup.

On the docks Mildew and the villagers are planning to throw Toothless out to sea, but Stoick and Gobber immediately put themselves between Toothless and the mob, demanding that Mildew release Toothless. Sadly, though, Mildew has the backing of the rest of the village on his side.

In the blacksmith's forge Hiccup is frantically running through, trying to look for anything that's made of metal and easy to carry. Moments after choosing a spear Astrid and the other teens come in, telling Hiccup that Toothless has been captured. He already knows this and asks Astrid to fly him to the docks.

"If you want to get to that dragon, you'll have to go through us"
Back on the docks, Stoick and Gobber are still standing their ground in not letting anyone get past them to Toothless, and are soon joined by Bucket and Mulch who claim they "stand with the chief". Just as a fight is about the break out, Hiccup, Astrid, and Stormfly swoon down and come between it. Hiccup gets down and tries to convince the villagers that throwing Toothless off the end of the world won't stop the lightning from destroying Berk, because the lighting it hitting the metal, not following Toothless. They don exactly believe him yet, though.

Hiccup gets Astrid and Stormfly to fly him up to the top of the mast on a nearby ship. Astrid asks him if he knows what he's doing and Hiccup just simply says "it's more of a hunch", although Astrid's worried Hiccup convinces her that he'll be fine. Though Hiccup's actions don't make Stoick feel any less worried.

Hiccup getting struck by lightning
Hiccup tries to prove his point more clearly, saying that when he places the spear at the top of the mast the lighting will be drawn to it. Unfortunately before he can even finish his statement, the lightning strikes the spear...while Hiccup's still holding it. Hicucp gets struck by the lighting and then falls off the mast into the water.

Stoick and Gobber run to the edge of the dock, looking for Hiccup but Toothless quickly breaks free from his bindings and dives into the water after Hiccup, pulling him out even though Hiccup is unconscious...

The next morning, Hiccup wakes up in his bed, Toothless already by his side, and Hiccup quickly checks his right foot, making sure it's still there in fear of the last time he woke up after being unconscious for a while. Stoick and Gobber come in, overjoyed that Hiccup's alright and telling him that the village is now convinced that Hiccup was right about the Thor not being mad at Toothless. Gobber does add that until they can find out why Thor was "angry at the metal" they're all "walking on eggshells".

"At least I didn't lose another one."
Outside some of the villagers are taking down the metal Thor statue and Hiccup is saddened since he and the others worked so hard on it. Stoick suggests that Hiccup take it to one of the high points on the island and just leave it there, and Snotlout and Tuffnut assure Stoick that they'll "take care of that" for him.

At Mildew's house, he hears a lot of noises outside only to see that the statue of Thor is mounted directly outside his front door. He's obviously angered by this but Snotlout and the other teens just laugh.

Toothless's apology gifts
At the Haddock house Hiccup and Toothless are visited by many of the villagers, all bringing food in apology of how they treated Toothless. Gifts they both happily accept.

And, back at Mildew's house, another lightning storm is brewing and with the Thor statue right outside his front door the lighting begins to be re-routed right into his house via the statue....
