A know-it-all when it comes to dragon statistics and the tallest and biggest of the Viking teens who lives on Berk.
Role in the Franchise:
Fishlegs is the oddball of the “accepted group” of Viking teens, and it’s no doubt he’s not in the same boat as Hiccup only because he’s big and strong. Fishlegs makes his presence known by readily sharing is wealth of dragon knowledge which he acquired by reading the Book of Dragons seven times. He always quotes statistics from the books when fighting against dragons in the movie and is able to digest this material and use it to figure out the Green Death’s weaknesses and strong points. His constant knowledge can make him an annoyance to the other teens.
Fishlegs’s dragon is a Gronckle he rode in the first movie who he named Meatlug. Fishlegs is obviously very close to his dragons, but it’s easy to see that he might be obsessed with his dragon a little too much.
Fishlegs and Meatlug's friendship is said to rival Hiccup and Toothless's bond. They even have a "night time ritual" of Meatlug strangely licking Fishlegs' feet before he goes to sleep before they go to sleep and seem to be very affectionate towards each other.

Fishlegs has also earned the title "log master" to the Book of Dragons in which he helps Hiccup record a bulk of the new information in the Book of Dragons as well as being looked at to remember all that knowledge for outside use on the fly.
It’s mentioned in the Nintendo DS version of the How to Train Your Dragon video game that Fishlegs does have siblings, their names and ages aren’t known though, and it’s not clear whether the idea of his siblings will play out in the actual story.

Personality:
Fishlegs is, in all respects, a nerd, but his knowledge is only of book smarts. Post-movie, Fishlegs easily adapts to dragons and Vikings being friends and even acquires Meatlug. In the short, Gift of the Night Fury, Fishlegs is convinced that Meatlug is a boy, but it’s later revealed that Meatlug is indeed a girl. This makes the point that although Fishlegs is good at knowing the fighting statistics of dragons, when it actually comes to training dragons, he’s a bit clueless. He does, though, seem to have a very obsessive personality and seems blissfully naive compared to the others.
It also seems that Fishlegs is one of the less mature in the group (and probably younger), and he’s not very brave either as in Riders of Berk he constantly displays a tendency to become fearful and easily overreacts to potential conflict. Though this maybe because, as shown in What flies Beneath, that he always feels under a great amount of pressure to remember all of the knowledge from the Book of Dragons since everyone always expects him to have the dragon-related answers. Though he does coin this as one of his strengths even though it can be a pressure sometimes, as shown in Gem of a Different Color, as well as his intense need to never mess with the bond between a mother dragon and her eggs.
A shining moment of collective behavior, though was in the episode Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man in which he was able to successfully calm down Astrid, who ironically was having a melt down when Hiccup and Toothless became trapped in a cave and potentially dead.
And in another shining moment was in Gem of a Different Color in which Fishlegs was partially responsible for changewing dragon eggs being sold around Berk by Snotlout. Fishlegs literally snapped on Snotlout at one point and gained a lot of confidence in facing off against Snotlout's physical and verbal aggression--something he's usually shied away from.

Abilities:
Fishlegs’s main ability is his apparent knack to memorize information and reiterate it for the situation at hand. Less so than his brain, it is assumed that Fishlegs is able to wield the hammer he uses in the first movie during dragon training, though he is never seen actually using it, but his size does give him an advantage in lifting things whether he really trains to be a decent fighter or not.
Also, as shown in We are Family, Part 1 Fishlegs is rather skilled at imitating a variety of dragon noises.

Appearance:
He’s the tallest and biggest in the Viking teen group. Fishlegs has blonde hair, grey eyes, and a very small horned Viking helmet. He’s seen wearing a sleeveless, fur tunic, dark pants, and fur boots.
In the Riders of Berk, Fishlegs' fur vest is replaced by a lighter brown leather tunic with designs on the shoulder and drawstrings in the front.
