Overview:
Book of Dragons is a direct-to-DVD short film in the Dreamworks Dragons franchise. It was released on DVD and Blu-Ray alongside the Gift of the Night Fury short on November 15th, 2011. The short is an out-of-continuity edition that provides information on 14 different dragons in the Dragon Manuel as Hiccup, Astrid, Fishlegs, and Gobber narrate. The short earned positive reviews for it's creativity and detail in the different dragon species as well as it's clever usage of flash animated graphics mixed with CGI.
Description:
The short takes place during the night in the Great Hall as Hiccup, Astrid, Fishlegs, Gobber, and Toothless are studying the Book of Dragons. They then explain 14 different dragon species in 7 different classes: Stoker (Terrible Terror, Monstrous Nightmare) Boulder (Gronckle, Whispering Death), Fear (Hideous Zippleback, Snaptrapper), Sharp (Deadly Nadder, Timberjack), Tidal (Scauldron, Thumberdrum), Mystery (Changewing, Boneknapper), and Strike (Skrill, Night Fury).
