Hiccup's father and a strict one at that. Hiccup's relationship with his father in the first movie was anything but perfect. Due to them being complete opposites from looks, to strength, to interests, the two barely found anything to talk about. Hiccup, though, could always sense the disappointment his father harbored for him because Hiccup wasn't living up to expectations of being the son of the chief. In turn, Hiccup would try to prove himself worthy by making his way out during raids to "help" as much as he could, but only ended up failing even more in his attempts.
Although Stoick strove to understand Hiccup, it's clear that Hiccup understood his father clearly, and knew exactly what Stoick expected out of him. He just wasn't sure if he could do it. Hiccup, though, seemed to carry a heavy amount of harbored rage towards Stoick as well, claiming that he never listened when Hiccup tried to explain himself and that he simply never gave him a chance.
After Hiccup befriended Toothless in secret and grew to become the "best" in Dragon Training it was evident that Hiccup was both pleased and worried by the positive attention his father was giving him. Naturally, when Stoick disowned him, Hiccup showed a rare stroke of emotional shock and helplessness.
Even though Stoick did apologize for his treating of Hiccup, Hiccup also apologized for hiding the truth of his friendship with Toothless from him. With the relationship renewed and strengthened by the event in which Stoick believed Hiccup was dead after his battle with the Green Death, Hiccup and Stoick's relationship slowly started to get back on track.
In the post-movie shorts Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon and Gift of the Night Fury, Hiccup and Stoick's relationship is seen to be on much better terms. In the Boneknapper the two are seen to be on friendly speaking terms, and in Gift Hiccup is able to communicate on an emotional level with Stoick when he senses Hiccup's sadness over missing Toothless. Although the conversation itself it still a tad awkward, Hiccup is able to convey how he feels and get some helpful advice from his father, which is a huge step from where they were in the movie.

In Riders of Berk Stoick and Hiccup seem to be communicating openly with each other, though they still butt heads on how to handle situations pertaining to dragons. Hiccup tries his hardest to do things his way, while Stoick's 'what's best for the tribe' mindset gets in the way. Still, they work with each other to try and solve the problem even if neither of them really change their point of views. And Hiccup still has an intense need to prove himself to his father.
In How to Pick Your Dragon Hiccup and Stoick butt heads in how to handle training a dragon when Stoick finally wants a dragon of his own after they both agree that they can't share Toothless. Hiccup feels that Stoick is, once again, not listening to a word he says, even though it's eventually revealed that Stoick was listening and retaining what he said the entire time. Hiccup still, though, finds it extremely taxing to teach his father how to do anything new, but he eventually gets through to him despite them both sharing the same stubborn personality.
In Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man, Hiccup once again feels inadequate to the standards his father has for him when Stoick advises that the father/son portrait painted of them feature Hiccup as a more muscle built man. To prove his worth, Hiccup went off on a dangerous treasure hunt only to almost die. After Hiccup survived and brought back the knowledge he obtained by finding the treasure, Stoick made a point to always appreciate his son for who he is. This development carried over to the episode Thawfest in which Stoick repressed his want to pressure Hiccup into winning the games and was proud of his son for getting as far as he did.
In When Lightning Strikes, Stoick is more loyal to Toothless and Hiccup when Mildew is against them.

Friends:
Hiccup's best friend and his dragon. Toothless and Hiccup's
relationship didn't start off good terms at the beginning of the movie. They
met by chance when Hiccup intentionally shot Toothless down during a dragon
raid in hopes to kill him and finally gain some respect from the village. When
Hiccup finally found Toothless--with every intention of killing him--Hiccup
found that he simply couldn't kill Toothless after he saw the fear in the
dragon's eyes. Hiccup quickly let Toothless go afterwards and was shocked that
he wasn't killed by Toothless before he flew off.
On Hiccup's part, seemed all for the idea of being friends with Toothless and took a strong liking to finding out Toothless's mannerisms even though sometimes his trial and error tactics would annoy Toothless. After the two finally learned to fly in sync (almost dying in the process) Hiccup began to see that he was coming up on a strong decision he had to make about whether to stay friends with Toothless or be a true Viking. He unknowingly chose Toothless when he decided to run away with him after he was chosen to kill the Monstrous Nightmare, and would've succeeded in the process if Astrid hadn't found them in the cove.
Hiccup--that same day--further showed his loyalty to Toothless when he refused to give away the location to the Dragon's Nest in fear that if anyone else found out they'd capture and kill Toothless. Even after Toothless was eventually captured when trying to protect Hiccup in the Kill Ring, Hiccup begged his father to be mad and take out all his anger on him, but not to kill Toothless. It was his friendship with Toothless that allowed him to go and free him before the fight against the Green Death, even if it meant losing the respect of his village and his father. It came down to a certain point where Hiccup seemed loyal to only Toothless, not even seeking the approval of Astrid.
Hiccup and Toothless's bond during flight was what allowed them to defeat the Green Death and the only reason Hiccup made it out of the battle alive was because Toothless saved Hiccup from burning to death by wrapping him in his wings. After Hiccup woke up to find that his left foot was missing, he gets assistance from Toothless to take his first steps across the room.
Post movie, in the short Gift of the Night Fury, Hiccup and Toothless's friendship is still stronger than ever. Although Hiccup is annoyed that Toothless wakes him up at the crack of dawn to go flying each morning, Hiccup still enjoys flying with Toothless and trying out new tricks during their flight sessions. When Toothless wasn't able to fly off with the other dragons to the Rookery, though, Hiccup begins to feel guilty for being the reason Toothless can't fly once again. He ends up fashioning another new tail for Toothless (staying up all night to do so), only this one Toothless can operate on his own, and gives it to him as a Snoggletog gift. Upon giving it to him, though, Toothless unexpectedly flew off and didn't return for three days.
Hiccup was obviously extremely saddened by Toothless's absence--assuming that the two haven't spent such extended periods of time apart since they met. When he was taken to the Rookery, his first instinct was to look for Toothless, and even though he ended up bringing everyone else their dragons and received praise and thanks (especially from Astrid) it was clear that Hiccup was still sad and worried for Toothless.
When Toothless did return, Hiccup's mood immediately went from sad to overwhelming happiness. He, at first glance, gave Toothless a hug and did so again after he realized Toothless had gone to retrieve his helmet that had fallen in the ocean a few days prior.
After Toothless returns, Hiccup is shocked and happy to realize that Toothless prefers to fly with Hiccup using the old tail that takes them both to operate rather than simply flying on his own. The two are seen to have an even stronger friendship and understanding of each other after that.
In Riders of Berk Hiccup and Toothless's friendship continues to grow, but is also tested by the prejudice of others who don't feel dragons and humans should live together, as well as people who try to capture either Toothless for his rarity or Hiccup for his knowledge in dragon training.
Still, they seem to have a bond so in tune with each other that they can fly seamlessly without even communicating verbally.
In The Terrible Twos Hiccup and Toothless are at odds when Hiccup mistakes Toothless's warnings for jealousy towards a new baby dragon, Torch. Despite Toothless trying to warn Hiccup that Torch's angry mother is looking for her baby, Hiccup continues to think Toothless has simply gone mad with jealousy, to the point where he even abandons Toothless in the cove, figuring he has to separate Toothless from Torch until he can figure out what to do with the both of them. Despite this bump in their relationship, Hiccup and Toothless's bond still comes out stronger and they both learn to communicate all the more better.
In In Dragons We Trust and Alvin and the Outcasts Hiccup and Toothless are temporarily separated due to Mildew's framing the dragons. They are shown to have a moment similar to that of "Gift in the Night Fury" in which Hiccup gives Toothless a long hug before he must leave him behind on Dragon Island. While gone, it's obvious both of them are feeling the strain of the separation.
During Dragon Flower when Toothless was hit with a sickness due to a poisonous flower, Hiccup went to great lengths to find a cure for him, nursed, and stayed with him until he felt better. He even went on a dangerous journey to get venom from a scauldron as a cure.
In When Lightning Strikes, Hiccup and Toothless's right to be together is tested when Mildew, once again, has the village against dragons, but this time specifically after Toothless. Hiccup did whatever he could to convince the village that Thor wasn't plaguing the village with deadly lightning because they were harboring Toothless, but when all else failed, Hiccup was willing to run away with Toothless until the madness died down. In the end of the episode, in the process of proving that the lightning was attracted to metal and not to Toothless, Hiccup unintentionally got himself struck by lightning and was rendered unconscious and almost drowned if Toothless hadn't dived in and saved him.
In What Flies Beneath Toothless is met with a rival, a Whispering Death, from the past and his pride to end the fight without the help of Hiccup--even though he needs Hiccup to fly--kicks in. Throughout the episode Toothless continually denies Hiccup permission to fly on him and goes after the Whispering Death multiple times alone.
Toothless is only able to submit to Hiccup when he realizes that Hiccup, intentionally, fell off a cliff and decided to abandon the fight to save him instead. Hiccup then helps Toothless to win the fight since he was then able to fly. Hiccup also convinces Toothless to not kill the Whispering Death when he has him pinned.
In We are Family, part 1 Hiccup began to feel immensely saddened knowing that Toothless didn't have any other dragons of his species to be with, and sough to find some when he found a map to a supposed island of night furies.

One of Hiccup's few friends at the beginning of the movie and Hiccup's blacksmiths teacher as well as Dragon Training coach. Gobber was one of the few people who, despite Hiccup's screw ups, would put up with him. They also share similar hobbies, interests, beliefs, and personality traits such as the fact that they both believe in trolls, blacksmith, and are sarcastic. Hiccup was thankful for the fact that he could talk to Gobber without being judged and could vent his frustrations about his father towards him. In turn, even though it's not outwardly said, Hiccup values Gobber's company and friendship a great deal.
Hiccup also seems to asks Gobber for advice more so than anyone else--even his father. Although Gobber's advice can be just as sarcastic as Hiccup is, he usually listens to it. For the most part, though, when Hiccup wants something said to his father that he feels he can't say directly to him, he either mentions it to Gobber hoping it will get to Stoick, or outwardly asks Gobber to say something.
It was because of Gobber that Hiccup was able to have a prosthetic foot after he lost his real one, and Gobber even remade Toothless's new red tail while Hiccup was unconscious.
Post-movie in the short Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon, Hiccup's loyal friendship towards Gobber is shown when he constantly tried to believe Gobber's crazy stories even when no one else does and he shows great worry when he believes the boneknapper is about to kill Gobber. It's tested in the episode Viking for Hire when Gobber proves to be more harm then good during dragon training. Hiccup is forced to fire Gobber from his job making new saddles--which makes him feel extremely guilty--but Hiccup eventually finds that Gobber's new niche is being a dragon dentist.
In The Terrible Twos and How to Pick Your Dragon it's shown that although Hiccup's relationship with his father is on better terms, he still goes to Gobber for advice on any matters that are stressing him out. And in Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man Gobber is able to figure out why Hiccup is upset over the painting before Stoick can.

Another friend he's obtained via his new position as a dragon trainer, though not as close to him as Astrid, Hiccup has found a friendship in Fishlegs. The two tend to have much in common intellectually and both know a great deal about dragons.
Although Hiccup can still be a tad annoyed with Fishleg's common nature to butt in with dragon trivia and generally be nervous and scared in most situations that don't phase Hiccup whatsoever, his knowledge is useful and he is a loyal friend. This is shown in Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man when Hiccup became trapped, Fishlegs and Astrid seemed to be the only ones who were invested in freeing them immediately.
Also, when Fishlegs is freaking out--which he does often--Hiccup is usually the one who is able to calm him down.
In later episodes of season 1 to Riders of Berk, Hiccup and Fishlegs' friendship comes more to fruition. Hiccup easily begins to find that out of the main group of six Fishlegs--alongside Astrid, of course--are the ones he can rely on the most. The three are often seen going on smaller missions together such as in Breakneck Bog and Gem of a Different Color.

Love Interests:
It is believed that Hiccup has had a crush on Astrid since childhood and his longing to be with her is very obvious in the movie. He frequently stares at her and shyly tries to talk to her ever chance he gets, but is never really paid any really attention by her for the most part. This fact doesn't stop Hiccup from still attempting to talk to her every chance he can.
His attraction to her did take a backseat, though, when his secret friendship with Toothless and his sudden rise to being the best in Dragon Training class came into the equation. Hiccup was well aware that Astrid was jealous and suspicious of him and tried to downplay it for the most part. But, it was still obvious that Hiccup was scared of Astrid's suspicions to a certain degree--mostly when she threatened him with her axe.
He had his chance to finally prove himself to her when he forced her into a ride on Toothless. He was worried for her safety the whole ride, though, even after she calmed down and started to enjoy it. He was also extremely happy and slightly nervous be to be in such a close proximity with her while they shared the saddle, and he smiled nervously when she wrapped her arms around him during the flight.
It was noticeable that Hiccup was thankful for Astrid's cooperation in not telling that they had discovered the Dragon's nest bu he was happily taken off guard when she kissed him on the cheek in the cove; he was seen to blush and smile afterwards. Even though Hiccup's mind was clearly other places for most the second half of the movie, he was comforted by his small and encouraging conversations with Astrid a great deal. It was because of Astrid that Hiccup was encouraged to go after the ships to free Toothless. Even before he was going to fight the Monstrous Nightmare in the Kill Ring Hiccup entrusted Toothless's care to Astrid if he didn't make it out of the fight alive.
They were seen to have chosen to ride together on the Deadly Nadder going into the fight with the Green Death even though they both could've easily had other flying arrangements and Hiccup ended up saving her when she was about to be sucked into the Green Death's mouth. After Hiccup defeated the Green Death he received a kiss on the lips from Astrid (his first one that he described to be "intense" in the novelization of the movie) in which he smiled and
commented that he could "get used to it".
commented that he could "get used to it".
Although they appear to be in close company in the the post-movie short Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon, it wasn't until the events of Gift of the Night Fury that it was clear that Hiccup was in some kind of relationship with her. They appear to be good friends at that point, and seem to spend most of the their time together more so than with the other Viking teens. Hiccup's nervousness that was frequently exhibited in the movie, though, completely vanish by that time, and he reacted very casually and openly friendly/romantic with her. He even called her "M'Lady" when Astrid visited him in the Gobber's blacksmith forge to bring him Yaknog. And he kept the Yaknog in his mouth rather than immediately spit it out in front of her to avoid hurting her feelings.
During the Snoggletog feast during the end of the short, Hiccup is comforted and thanked by Astrid with kind words, a kiss (on the lips), and a long hug, in this time Hiccup seemed to be very relaxed around her (not at a loss for words or nervous beyond belief) and although he didn't completely say that he missed Toothless it was clear that he is comfortable enough around her to show a little vulnerability. Hiccup, still, was surprised by Astrid's kiss and has yet to initiate any of the physical romance between them onscreen.
It's assumed that the two are taking things slow, yet still have a friendly and supportive relationship. Their closeness has even seemed to trigger a sudden familiarity between their dragons.
In Riders of Berk Hiccup and Astrid's relationship continues to grow as they gain a closer friendship with each other. Though still not officially a couple yet, Astrid is often described as Hiccup's main supporter as well as his "right hand woman" to dragon training related matters as well as in general. Although Hiccup's 'breaking the rules' attitude does seem to cause annoyance to Astrid, the two usually work together when it's time to fix a problem.
Astrid is also still the only other Viking teen Hiccup is seen hanging out with alone. As seen in Animal House the two fly together without the company of the others.
It seems that their post-movie relationship is awkwardly romantic. It's well noted that the two are romantically interested in each other, yet act awkwardly around each other in potentially romantic situations or when it's called to attention. Hiccup does seem to have a protective nature towards Astrid, though, as when they were trapped in the snow in Animal House Hiccup held Astrid for warmth--the first notable initiation of physical contact Hiccup's given as well as in Alvin and the Outcasts in which Hiccup reveals himself as the "Dragon Conqueror" when Astrid is being roughly interrogated as well as saving her when she was captured later in the episode on Alvin's ship.
Their relationship takes a bad turn in the episode Heather Report, Part 1 with the introduction of Heather into their lives. Hiccup seems to be torn between his new crush on Heather and his already established feelings for Astrid but ends up being blinded by Heather's innocent facade instead of listening to Astrid's warnings that Heather was working for the Outcasts. After it's revealed that Heather is working for Alvin and is after the book Hiccup tries to apologize to Astrid for the way he treated her, but Astrid doesn't seem too interested in an apology from him. Though in Heather Report, Part 2 Hiccup was extremely worried when Astrid went off to Outcast Island alone--and disguised like Heather. He displayed many nervous gestures and told her that them shadowing her while she was on the boat ride to the island would make him feel better about the whole situation.
In Thawfest Hiccup was once again at odds with Astrid when he couldn't understand why she was so mad at him for getting overly competitive with Snotlout. By the the end of the episode, though, her words about being a "lousy winner" got to him and he threw the race against Snotlout and ultimately lost the Thawgames. Still, he was rewarded by Astrid--who saw that he threw the race--with a kiss on the lips for being the "better Viking". This is the first kiss they've had since the movie (since it's not known if Gift of the Night Fury happens before or after the events of Riders of Berk).
Hiccup and Astrid are noticeably closer after the events of Thawfest. Hiccup is a bit more open to ask Astrid for help and is more comfortable with small amounts of physical contact as well as recognizing his need to reassure Astrid that he'll be okay in dangerous situations. The two are seen riding on one dragon more casually as well.

Although Hiccup always had eyes for Astrid, it was clear in the movie that Ruffnut seemed to have developed feelings for Hiccup as well. It's not clear how deep those feelings ran, but it was clear that Hiccup didn't return them. When she semi-confessed that she liked him by saying "you're crazy....I like that", he seemed more scared than flattered, and was relieved when Astrid pulled Ruffnut away. Other than that, the two aren't seen to be in any kind of closer friendship than acquaintanceship and in Riders of Berk there's no evidence that Ruffnut has anymore feelings for Hiccup.
Despite the rift Heather's insertion made in Hiccup's "relationship" with Astrid, after learning Heather was a traitor, Hiccup seemed to be on the same boat as Astrid, and even supported her being thrown in jail when they returned. But after she saved them on Outcast Island and learned that she really was telling the truth about her parents, Hiccup seemed to drop his anger towards her. Although when Heather was saying her goodbyes she rejected Hiccup's obvious want for a hug, so she didn't really have any romantic feelings for him after all.

In the Riders of Berk episode Heather Report, Part 1 Hiccup is faced with a new girl on Berk, Heather. Taking an immediate worry for her as she claims her parents and home was captured and overrun by pirates Heather stays at his house until they can "find a safe place for her to stay".
Heather's beauty, innocence, and interest in Hiccup's blacksmithing and dragon training assist in Hiccup's eventual development of a crush on her. His growing crush on her seems to have blinded him towards thinking clearly (or as Astrid said his "brain is under siege") and realizing that Heather was really a spy for Alvin, out to get the Book of Dragons.
After Hiccup found out Heather's true intentions he seemed to have dropped his feelings for her, even to the point where when she fell off off Stormfly Hiccup chose going after the Book of Dragons rather than saving her.
Despite the rift Heather's insertion made in Hiccup's "relationship" with Astrid, after learning Heather was a traitor, Hiccup seemed to be on the same boat as Astrid, and even supported her being thrown in jail when they returned. Enemies:
Snotlout
Although Hiccup doesn't entirely see Snotlout as a rival, the two are certainly on edge with each more than they're not. They engaged in many small amounts of picking at each other throughout the season until Thawfest where they're pitted against each other in the competition. Hiccup claims that Snotlout started their bickering when they were five and he's apparently held a resentment towards him for always thinking he's better just because Snotlout's bigger than him.
Hiccup begins to feed into Snotlout's own spiteful nature when he gets a taste of winning during the games and lets his success get to him, though he doesn't last long when he finally snaps out of his fog and realizes that he was, in theory, turning into everything he hated about Snotlout.
Hiccup's ways with Snotlout post-Thawfest seem to be always trying to be the better person, either ignoring or belittling the rude quips Snotlout gives--especially in What Flies Beneath.
Mildew
Mildew is Hiccup's first true adversary after he makes peace with the dragons and Vikings. While Hiccup is trying to move his village forward in embracing dragons as part of their society and lives, Mildew seems to only fuel Hiccup's setbacks.
In the episode How to Start a Dragon Academy Mildew is the main cause as to why the Vikings become enraged at the Dragons to the point where they want them sent away. Mildew seems to be at odds with Stoick as well, but mostly turns his guns on Hiccup. His hatred towards Hiccup seems to span past the dragons as well, as seen in Viking for Hire where Mildew just makes Hiccup feel guilty for putting Gobber's weaponry forge out of business. It's assumed that Mildew just wants to break Hiccup down emotionally.
Mildew and Hiccup are at ends again in In Dragons We Trust when Hiccup correctly suspects that Mildew is framing the dragons, yet he has no evidence to prove it to his father. Although Hiccup cannot prove Mildew's treason he did make a threat to Mildew in Alvin and the Outcasts that he will never forget what he did.
In Dragon Flower Hiccup struggled with the same problem he had in In Dragons we Trust when it turned out Mildew planted poisonous flowers that made the dragons sick. Hiccup still couldn't prove that Mildew did it to harm the dragons directly and thus couldn't really do much against him.
In When Lightning Strikes, Hiccup was once again at odds with Mildew. Though since Mildew was using an open approach to turn the village against Toothless, Hiccup focused less on dealing with Mildew and more on protecting Toothless.
Mildew really proves his distaste of Hiccup in We are Family, part 1 where he assisted Alvin in capturing Hiccup by forging Night Fury notes and maps to get Hiccup alone on an abandoned island.

Once Stoick's oldest enemy is now after Hiccup as well. Alvin is interested by Hiccup's ability to ride and train dragons and wants to use them for his own personal gain. Although Alvin and Hiccup have had littler interaction, they seem to already have a rivalry between them. Hiccup, though, seems to not be too threatened by Alvin's intentions yet. But he has yet to know that Alvin is still planning to come back and capture Hiccup again.
In Heather Report part 1 and 2 Alvin returned but was after the Book of Dragons. In Part 2, Hiccup and the riders went to Outcast Island to retrieve the book and Hiccup and Alvin had a small stand off in which Alvin gave Hiccup the offer to team up with him, as Hiccup's knowledge of dragons and Alvin's knowledge of warfare would make a good team, but, of course, Hiccup turned him down.
After being defeated yet again, Alvin concluded that there was no bypassing simply obtaining Hiccup to get what he wanted. He tried, yet again, in Defiant One, yet still came up short of capturing him, but finally succeeded in We are Family, part 1--With the help of Mildew.

Hiccup has a well established past with current Berserker chief, Dagur, as introduced in the episode Twinsanity. When Dagur's father--Oswald--was in command Hiccup was always tasked with keeping Dagur company.
Hiccup and Dagur's relationship can be seen as sibling-like. Though Dagur seems to have taken every opportunity to bully Hiccup, such as trying to drown him at one point when they went swimming as younger kids, and just any other means of physical harm.
Still, Hiccup gets his few chances to get back at Dagur and never passes up a chance to slyly kick him down or even punch him "accidentally".
