Meatlug was captured and kept in the Kill Ring during the movie and used for dragon training before her first flight with Fishlegs to go fight against the Green Death.
Fishlegs and Meatlug have developed a friendship that is extremely close--and almost rivals Hiccup and Toothless--they even have a night time routine of Meatlug oddly licking Fishleg's feet before going to bed. Meatlug seems to be just as odd as Fishlegs is, and shares is rather jumpy personality.
In later episodes, it only shows just how much closer the two have gotten. Fishlegs even openly says that Meatlug is the someone he talks to when the world has "turned it's cold shoulder" on him.
