The egotistical jerk of the Viking Teens who lives on Berk.
Role in the Franchise:
Snotlout is introduced in the movie as the best Viking male in the teen group and has an even bigger ego to back it up. He also has a very big and rather obvious crush on Astrid. He makes many failed passes at Astrid throughout the movie, but does end up losing Astrid’s affections to Hiccup. He still seems to make occasional passes even after she shows romantic interest in Hiccup as seen in the Gift of the Night Fury and Riders of Berk.
Snotlout’s dragon is the Monstrous Nightmare he rode in the battle against the Green Death whom he named Hookfang. They are seen in Gift of the Night Fury to be close.
Though as shown in Riders of Berk, Hookfang apparently likes to push Snotlout's buttons. It's mentioned that Hookfang likes to give Snotlout the allusion that he's being trained, but in retrospect Hookfang does whatever he wants. Despite this, the two are shown to be close in more dire situations such as when Snotlout is in trouble or going through an emotional situation, Hookfang is there for his rider...but they mostly keep their affectionate behavior in private since Snotlout gets embarrassed easily, much to Hookfang's annoyance.
It’s also seldom mentioned but Hiccup and Snotlout are cousins, this has yet to be mentioned in the movie or shorts, but has been mentioned on the official website, it's probably on Hiccup's Mother's side, though.

| Hookfang biting Snotlout |
It’s mentioned in the Nintendo DS version of the How to Train Your Dragon video game that Snotlout does have siblings, their names and ages aren’t known though, and it’s not clear whether the idea of his siblings will play out in the actual story.
Personality:
His ego is the core of his personality in the movie, he thinks he’s the best, acts likes he’s the best, but has little to show for it with his actual performance in fighting against dragons. Despite this, Snotlout odd sense of determination doesn’t let that fact wane his ego whatsoever, nor does he let the constant rejection of his passes towards Astrid stop him from hitting on her again, even after she starts pursuing Hiccup. His most prominent advantage is just the fact that he's the stereotypical Viking.
| Snotlout in Viking for Hire |
Even though he'd argue against the matter, Snotlout cares deeply for his friends and is actually a pretty sensitive person. This is showcased in the episode Viking for Hire when Stoick and Gobber are suggesting killing Hookfang because he's too dangerous, Snotlout is near tears at the moment when Gobber was really about to kill his dragon.
It's also showcased in Thawfest fuel behind his rather egotistical behavior is because his father, Spitelout, has pressured him into always being the best or else he brings shame to the Jorgenson family name. In the Thawfestival games, Snotlout was under extreme pressure by his father to win and be the best in all the events as he has done every year, to the point where Snotlout was absolutely terrified of losing and facing his father with it.
After the events of Thawfest, though, Snotlout's fuel to be at odds with Hiccup is rekindled and he seems more determined to ever to cause problems with him. This is shown in What flies Beneath the most in which Snotlout delivers a series of 'below the belt' comments on it being Hiccup's fault that Toothless can't fly on his own and even being mean to Fishlegs on occasion. Snotlout seems fixated on being rivals with Hiccup even to the point where Hiccup denied Snotlout being his "Arch enemy" but Snotlout still claimed that Hiccup was his.
Some more of his insecurities are flushed out in Defiant One where Snotlout admits his jealousy towards Hiccup's current string of success after defeating the Red Death, and is even jealous of his metal leg. Despite this Snotlout was able to swallow his pride long enough to help Hiccup out when he was captured by the Outcasts. Still, even with that revelation underway, Snotlout's personality is still rather opportunistic, as shown in Gem of a Different Color where he stole unhatched changewing eggs to make a profit off of selling them.
Snotlout’s known abilities are those of a stereotypical viking as displayed in the Riders of Berk episode Thawfest. Although in the movie he's scene wielding a spiked club and hammer he carries around, in Thawfest it's shown that--at least in a competition-like situation--Snotlout is actually extremely capable of using a variety of skills. He's strong, agile, and has good aim. This is proven in Defiant One as well when Snotlout is able to continuously fight off Outcasts and save Hiccup with nothing but a spare connecting rod.
Though he seems to choke under pressure and fear when having to use these skills in real batter as shown in Alvin and the Outcasts.

Snotlout has a very stocky build and always wears a Viking helmet with ram horns. He has brown hair and misty green eyes. Snotlout is always seen wearing a tan, sleeveless tunic, dark pants, fur boots, wrapped wrist bands, and a short, brown, fur, sleeveless vest.
In Riders of Berk his fur vest is replaced with a leather one.
